ZTE, Qualcomm Team Up to Enhance UMTS Performance
July 10, 2009
Chinese telecom solution provider ZTE and US wireless communications chip supplier Qualcomm jointly announced that they will team up to advance the capacity and performance of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) to close to LTE (Long Term Evolution) level, according to a press release by Qualcomm on July 5, 2009. The two companies expect to enhance UMTS data throughput by 60% and voice capacity by up to 45% by incorporating Qualcomm's ULIC (Uplink Interference Cancellation) technology into ZTE's next-generation UMTS base station products. It is projected that operators utilizing the new solution will be able to deliver a user experience comparable to LTE in a similar channel bandwidth.
